10/19/1981 Chuck Mangione, Gammage Auditorium, Tempe, AZ

October 19, 1981 - Tempe, AZ

Chuck Mangione had us "Feelin' So Good" at a jazz concert at Gammage Auditorium on the campus of Arizona State University.
This was my first concert at Gammage and had nosebleed seats in row 1 of the balcony. We could just see the bell from Chuck's flugelhorn sticking out from the hipster hat he always wore. Mostly we saw the top of Chuck's fedora.
A few years later, I had the opportunity to promote an appearance by Chuck's brother Gap, a talented but relatively unknown pianist compared to his brother, at a week-long gig at the Boojum Tree Jazz Lounge. Gap was a friendly sort who had no hard feelings about Chuck's international fame and his lack of it.
