8/4/2017 Metallica, University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, AZ

August 4, 2017 - Glendale, AZ

Metallica demonstrated its signature heavy metal rock style in a big production at University of Phoenix Stadium.
Metallica was playing large football stadiums for its "Worldwired" tour. University of Phoenix Stadium has great sightlines, but poor acoustics, and the heavy metal sounds were reverberating in a deafening roar.
We are not fans of thrash metal, but comp tickets motivated us to see the show and the spectacle. From our upper deck perch, we enjoyed the elaborate video screen presentations and the flames of fire that danced across the stage. The flames were so huge we could literally feel the heat even in our seats high above the stadium floor and stage. The visuals were great and the audio subpar.
Front man James Hetfield was an entertaining emcee with funny and foul statments and we respected Kirk Hammett's shredding lead guitar.
When "Enter Sandman" was played as the final encore, I almost expected Mario Rivera to come in to save the game for the Yankees (unlike Game 7 of the 2001 World Series when the Diamondbacks took him down).
