2/27/2000 Alison Krauss & Union Station Featuring Jerry Douglas, Celebrity Theatre, Phoenix, AZ

February 27, 2000 - Phoenix, AZ

Alison Krauss and Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas played a bluegrass and country concert in the round at Celebrity Theatre.

This was first and only time, so far, that I've seen Alison, the pride of Champaign, IL, in concert.  Union Station was incredibly tight and fun, particularly with the new addition of Jerry Douglas on dobro, and band leader Dan Tyminski on guitar and mandolin.

Great musicianship was on display, but this was overall a very mellow, laid back affair.  Alison's vocals were the star of of the show, highlighted this night by her covers of "When You Say Nothing At All" and "Baby Now That I've Found You."

Alison hasn't toured much around Arizona in the last 21 years.  We saw Jerry Douglas solo in Flagstaff and at the MIM, and Tyminski played a tremendous set that only Therese and me and about 100 early arrivals to the Innings Festival mainstage saw on a Sunday morning a few years ago. He was just great and so is his most recent solo record.

My hometown of Monticello, IL is halfway between Decatur, where Alison was born, and Champaign where she grew up.  Alison's brother Viktor plays bass for Lyle Lovett and his Large Band and has performed jazz concerts at Allerton Park outside Monticello.
