1/8/1978 Rush, Aragon Ballroom, Chicago, IL

January 8, 1978 - Chicago, IL

Rush rocks the Aragon Ballroom in uptown Chicago.

After finishing our first semester at college, some high school pals drove up to see my new Saluki buddy Rabs and take in the show.  This Rush concert, like most Rush shows, was 98% pre-teen and teenage boys who liked head-banging rock.  We fit right in.

Rush put out a lot of sound for a 3-piece band.  I was most impressed by the huge and elaborate drum kit that Neil Peart sat behind.  One of the top percussionists in music history, Peart died of glioblastoma a year ago yesterday, the same illness that claimed my pal and concert companion Rabs just a couple years ago.  I think of Rabs often, even without a ticket stub to poke me.
