January 9, 1996 - Scottsdale, AZ

Warren Zevon performs solo at the Rockin' Horse Saloon.

It was a treat to see Zevon in a small club setting, playing his well-known catalog, alternating between piano and guitar.  Great show and the only time I saw him in concert.

Four years later, I met him at a Phoenix Coyotes hockey game where he sang the National Anthem and let out a few howls ala "Werewolves of London."  He had seats on the glass at the blue line and wore a Coyotes jersey with his name on the back.  Between periods, he signed the back of my ticket stub and proclaimed the Coyotes as his new favorite team since they provided him a personalized jersey.

Sadly, the Rockin' Horse caught fire and burned to the ground just a few months later in June, a loss for fans of country, Americana and acoustic shows.
